Following the recent detection of Queensland fruit fly larvae on Flinders Island, the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water, and Environment is formally declaring Control Areas and Infected Areas for the restriction of movement, transport, and supply of host fruit.
To eradicate fruit fly, Biosecurity Tasmania is setting out insect traps and collecting fruit in areas near the fruit fly detections. The number of fruit flies in Tasmania is currently low so it is important to use a number of methods to make sure the flies are destroyed before they increase in number.
One of these methods is spot baiting. Information is now available for landholders close to the places where fruit fly have been detected about spot baiting, what it involves and other frequently asked questions.
