Strzelecki National Park – Beachcombing and suitable walks for all

Strzelecki National Park is around 20mins drive from Whitemark or Lady Barron if approaching from Lady Barron slow down as you near the top of Martins Hill or pull over and enjoy the expansive view of Whitemark and the outlying islands.

Feeling adventurous tackle the mountain climb first remember allow 4 to 5 hours and take food and drinks with you don’t forget to display your National Parks Pass on the dash of your vehicle.

After a more leisurely experience head to Trousers Point and take the walk to Fotheringate Beach allow 1.5 hours. Give your legs a rest and enjoy morning tea perched on a granite rock, then take your shoes off and walk in the soft white sand of Trousers Point beach, looking for shells as you go. Have a swim as the tide rolls in over the warm sand or try a spot of fishing for Snook or Blue Wrasse with pilchards or squid on an incoming tide is recommended.

Take a picnic lunch or cook your own on the free gas BBQ. Relax and enjoy the view of Cape Barren, Mt. Chappel and Badger Islands.

From Trousers Point drive back to the turn off and head south to Lady Barron taking a detour down the coast road. Turn off down Badger Corner Road and continue until you reach the boat ramp. Take in the view of Big Dog, Little Dog and the other Islands as you breathe in the fresh sea air. Next head back to Unavale Vineyard and taste a drop of local wine, meet the owners Roger or Bev and purchase a bottle to take home.

Follow the Coast road to Lady Barron and stop at Adelaide Bay bird viewing hide, the Islands make a nice backdrop to view ducks up close and personal.
